Why Choose a NIBE Air Source Heat Pump?

Easy to Install, Use & Maintain

There are 2 main elements to the NIBE heat pump, both of which have been designed to fit into your home as easily and discreetly as possible. The outdoor unit can be installed on almost any terrain, up to 12m from the indoor unit, is pre-wired and pre-charged with refrigerant. The indoor module fits into a 60 x 66 x 180 cm space with no flues or ventilation needed and can be wall mounted or floorstanding.

Very Quiet Operation

The NIBE heat pump is one of the quietest on the market with blades specially designed
to move as much air as possible with minimal noise.

Save Money on Energy Bills

A traditional oil or gas boiler will use 1kW of energy to produce less than 1kW of usable energy, whereas a NIBE air source heat pump will use 1kW to produce 3kW of energy. The compressor and energy saving motor ensure that only as much energy as is necessary is needed.

As a direct result of the heat pump’s efficiency, many homes will see a significant reduction in their energy bills. NIBE claim this could be as much as 65% for some homes.

Reduce Carbon Footprint

Installing an air source heat pump is a fantastic way to reduce your impact on our environment. Some studies show that this could cut a home’s carbon emissions by as much as 50% as there is no fossil fuel combustion involved and the energy is harvested from the natural air. In addition, the NIBE heat pump is charged with a refrigerant with a low environmental impact.

Easy to Maintain

The average life of a boiler is just 8-10 years but as long as your air source heat pump gets an annual service it should need very little maintenance and many can last for up to 25 years.

Heat Your Home All Year Round

Air source heat pumps by NIBE will work in the worst UK temperatures as they are designed to cope with temperatures as low as -20°C.

Get Paid to Generate Your Own Heat

An air-to-water heat pump could earn you money through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) payments. The RHI scheme pays owners of eligible renewable heating systems for each unit of energy generated for 7 years after it has been commissioned. NIBE estimate that a typical 3 bedroom house could earn as much as £820 per year through the scheme which is around £5,740 over the 7 years of the scheme**. Payments will vary depending on the current tariff, the technology installed and how much energy you generate.

The heat pump needs to be installed by an MCS accredited installer to ensure it’s eligible for the payments. Get free heat pump installation quotes from an MCS accredited installer near you.

**Actual figure £821.96 a year (£5,753.72 in total over the seven-year scheme). Based on a total annual energy demand of 15,000 kWh, system coefficient of performance (SCOP) of 3.7 and air source heat pump tariff payments of 7.51 p/kWh.

How Much Does a NIBE Air Source Heat Pump Cost?

On average, you’re looking at costs of between £6,000 – £12,000 to buy and install an air source heat pump. This is less than installing a ground source heat pump as this required drilling into the ground as part of the installation.

The upfront cost can be a daunting prospect for some, but it’s important to remember that once this is out of the way you’re looking years of energy savings and potential earnings through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. The amount you could save in terms of energy bills will depend on how inefficient you previous heating system was by comparison and how well your home is insulated.
