Our busy capital city is an international icon with many hats. Teeming with history, the arts, politics and buzzing with cultural diversity, the city and surrounding areas are hard to summarise without doing them an injustice. We do, however, like what Samuel Johnson had to say: “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life”.

A little history...
While the Great Fire of London in 1666 destroyed much of the architecture, there were actually only six recorded deaths. However, a further seven people died by falling or jumping from the Monument to it before they installed a safety barrier.

You might not know...
When in London, try not to die in the Palace of Westminster, beat a carpet in a public park or pretend to be a Chelsea pensioner; all are still illegal.

Although called the London Underground, over half of it actually runs above ground.

Famous Face: Too many to name but one of the biggest names is Queen Victoria, England’s second longest reigning monarch, who was born in Kensington Palace in 1819.
