Scotland
Scotland is home to some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the world. The highest peaks, wildest forests and almost mythical landscapes remain largely untouched but have been the backdrop of many years of conflict, triumph, tradition and legend.
A little history...
Macbeth, the tragic subject of Shakespeare’s play, was a real king of Scotland between 1040 - 1057. Thankfully, the name is about all the two characters have in common.
Some of the UK’s greatest inventions and discoveries were down to Scots: the telephone invented by Alexander Graham Bell, mechanical television by John Logie Baird and the discovery of penicillin by Alexander Fleming.
You may not know...
Of the 790 islands that make up Scotland, only 130 of these are inhabited.
Scotland has a long time love affair with all things mythological and legendary. So much so that the official national animal is a unicorn.
Scottish law still states that it is illegal to be in charge of a cow while drunk or for a boy younger than 10 to see a naked mannequin.
Famous Face: Robert the Bruce, who led Scotland to independence in 1306 and became their King of Scots, was born in Ayrshire in 1274.
