MP Extols Environmental Benefits of Heat Recovery Device

20th Feb 2012

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew Stunell has spoken of the potential for Passive Flue Gas Heat Recovery Devices (PFGHRDs) to reduce households’ expenditure on gas central heating.

Visiting a Baxi manufacturing facility in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, Mr Stunell met representatives from Baxi, Zenex Technologies and Remeha Commercial.

Mr Stunell also had the opportunity to discuss developments in the heat-recovery sector with Chris Farrell, Managing Director of Zenex Technologies and the brains behind the innovative GasSaver technology.

The Multifit GasSaver is a device installed alongside a boiler that aims to reuse heat captured from an adjacent flue. In conventional domestic boiler systems, gases are released into the atmosphere via the flue, but the Multifit GasSaver recycles much of this otherwise wasted source of energy. It is estimated that the device is able to reduce energy consumption by approximately 37 per cent.

While reducing carbon emissions by as much as 700Kg, the Multifit GasSaver provides a 7-per-cent saving in cold-water consumption. The device is renowned for being easy to install and requiring little or no maintenance.

PFGHRDs have attracted government interest because they offer a simple, cost-effective way for households to save money on energy bills, which are set to increase even further over the next ten years as the UK implements measures aimed to reduce its carbon emissions.

Discussing his visit to Baxi, Mr Stunell said: “My job is about setting achievable, sensible priorities. We have to align with what we are doing on the regulatory front with what is being done on Green Deal.

“The beauty of GasSaver is that it is British and can be integrated with what Baxi is doing on other fronts. We need to have a cultural change to encourage people to think about how to save energy in existing properties.

“It is important that we continue to work on technologies that challenge the whole industry to think about how we get to the next step beyond our current domestic gas boilers”.

The Multifit GasSaver provides the most effective results when used with an energy efficient boiler system, such as the Baxi Platinum Combi HE A or the Baxi Duo-tec HE A Combi boiler, which converts at least 90 per cent of fuel into heat energy.
