Nest just got smarter with more integrations

24th May 2016

Google’s Nest has announced that its products now work with even more smart home devices including the Belkin WeMo, Skybell and LIFX.

The Nest thermostat, smoke & carbon monoxide detector and security camera all now work with other platforms, allowing you to integrate the various smart features of your home.

One of the most anticipated integrations was with Belkin WeMo (including the Wemo Switch, Insight Switch, and Light Switch) which controls small appliances around the home. By connecting these with Nest Home/Away Assist you can now turn your appliances on and off as you come and go.

The new collaborations include the August Doorbell Cam which can now be used in conjunction with the Nest Cam to view a stream of both the inside and outside of your home. Other security integrations include the Skybell, which now works with the Nest Cam and Nest Protect. Not only will the Skybell start recording video when the Nest Cam detects motion or sound when you’re not at home, it will also flash red if Nest Protect issues a smoke or carbon monoxide warning.

Lifi Labs LIFX can also now be used with nest products to increase both home security and comfort. Working with the Nest Cam, LIFX lights can be set to switch on randomly whilst you’re away (to make it seem like you’re home), plus if motion is detected they can light up to deter intruders. LIFX can also work as a visual alarm alongside Nest protect – blinking and then turning to full brightness in an emergency.

The Misfit tracker can also now collaborate with Nest to adjust temperature. If you set an alarm time to wake up, Misfit and Nest will ensure that your home is the perfect temperature when you wake up.

These new integrations are yet another step towards homeowners being able to own a truly integrated smart home.
