OFTEC Advises Oil Users to Get Ready For Winter Now

29th Jun 2011

It may still be summer, but OFTEC, the Oil Firing Technical Association is encouraging oil heating customers to get ready for winter now, if they want to try and reduce their winter heating fuel bills.

With the costs of heating our homes set to rise even more over the coming months, several of the largest energy suppliers have already announced massive price hikes and more are expected to follow suit before the cold autumn weather arrives.

Around 1.5 million homes in the UK and the Republic of Ireland use oil to heat their homes, the majority of which are in rural areas and do not have access to mains gas. Unlike most other fuels, predominately all heating oil customers can shop around for the best price each time they have a fuel delivery, and OFTEC is encouraging householders to fill their tanks now in the summer months, when the price of oil is traditionally cheaper.

“Rising fuel bills mean more households are facing the threat of fuel poverty and although we are basking in the heat of summer now, OFTEC is urging consumers to do everything possible now to make sure they minimise their winter fuel bills,” says Jeremy Hawksley, OFTEC’s director general.

OFTEC is also highlighting to customers the benefits of getting their old and inefficient boiler replaced with one of the newer condensing boilers, which could save the consumer at least 18% on their fuel bills.
