Suspected boiler thieves are caught out due to icy weather

29th Nov 2010

Two men have been arrested in connection to the theft of a boiler from a house in Leigh, Lancashire.

The arrest took place earlier today at 1.50pm after reports of a break-in at a house in Firs Lane, Leigh, reached police.

Officers in Greater Manchester caught the pair of suspected thieves after they followed a trail of frozen water leaking from the stolen boiler.

The boiler had been taken from a kitchen, but police were able to trace its whereabouts as it had dripped water which had frozen. The trail led to a nearby house.

Two men, aged 38 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They remain in police custody for questioning.
