To carry out gas boiler installations in the UK, you must be listed on the Gas Safe Register. <\/p>\n<h2>What is the Gas Safe Register?<\/h2>\n<p>The Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI in 2009 as the official list of engineers certified to work on gas-fuelled appliances. Gas Safe registered engineers are the only people legally allowed to work on gas boilers, stoves and all other gas appliances.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the Gas Safe Register, homeowners are protected from having unsafe gas appliances installed in their properties. And as a Gas Safe engineer you\u2019ll be giving your customers the confidence that you possess the skills necessary to install gas appliances safely. <\/p>\n<h2>What you need to become Gas Safe registered<\/h2>\n<p>To earn a place on the Gas Safe Register, you must be able to display competence working with gas appliances. An essential qualification for any engineer looking to become Gas Safe registered is a CCN1 (Domestic Gas Safety) which is accredited by NICEIC. <\/p>\n<p>In addition, you must have been through training and completed an assessment through a recognised awarding body:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>National Accreditation Certification Scheme for individual Gas Fitting Operatives (ACS)<\/li>\n<li>ACS aligned National or Scottish Vocational Qualifications (NVQ\/SVQ)<\/li>\n<li>Qualification Credit Framework (QCF)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications used as evidence must be less than 5 years old. As well as holding necessary qualifications, you also need to display your competence with an onsite portfolio of your work.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve been awarded the relevant qualifications, you will be able to register with Gas Safe. This can be either done online or by filling in a registration form.<\/p>\n<p>Submitting an application to the Gas Safe Register costs \u00a3347 (plus VAT) and covers a single engineer for 12 months. After 12 months, you will need to renew your registration which costs \u00a3137 (plus VAT) when done online. Offline applications cost \u00a3157 (plus VAT).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gassaferegister.co.uk\/help-and-advice\/becoming-registered\/apply-now\/\">Apply for Gas Safe registration.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What happens after applying?<\/h2>\n<p>A successful application will be followed by a 3 month probation period. During this time, you\u2019ll be fully Gas Safe registered and able to complete work on gas appliances. However, you must keep to the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hold onto records and show examples of gas work<\/li>\n<li>Inform Gas Safe of all completed work (you must be able to supply evidence of completed work during the probation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To complete the probation and be a fully Gas Safe registered engineer, you will need to display competence via an inspection. <\/p>\n<h2>Benefits of being a Gas Safe registered engineer<\/h2>\n<p>As a Gas Safe engineer, you\u2019re certified to carry out work on gas appliances by law &#8211; a major benefit in itself. The benefits don\u2019t end there however and following a successful application to be listed on the Gas Safe Register, you\u2019ll benefit in a number of other ways too:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A company listing on the Gas Safe Register\u2019s website which is visited by many homeowners to check the credentials of a company<\/li>\n<li>Access to Gas Safe branding which you can display alongside your company logo on workwear, vehicles and promotional materials<\/li>\n<li>Receive a Gas Safe ID card to prove your credentials to customers<\/li>\n<li>The Gas Safe team of technical experts will provide advice when needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Proving your Gas Safe credentials<\/h2>\n<p>As a Gas Safe engineer, you\u2019re permitted by law to work on certain gas appliances. To help you prove this to customers, your company will be listed on the Gas Safe register and you\u2019ll receive a Gas Safe ID card. <\/p>\n<p>A Gas Safe ID card is unique to you and contains all of the information a customer needs to know that you\u2019re qualified to work in their property: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your photo<\/li>\n<li>The name of the company you work for<\/li>\n<li>A list of the gas appliances you\u2019re qualified to work on<\/li>\n<li>Start and expiry date (the licence must be renewed every 12 months)<\/li>\n<li>Unique licence number<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For added security, each Gas Safe ID card has a Gas Safe hologram to show its authenticity.<\/p>\n<p>You should show your Gas Safe ID to the homeowner when you arrive at their property to complete work.<\/p>\n<h2>Earn more work as a Gas Safe engineer<\/h2>\n<p>As a Gas Safe registered engineer, you&#8217;ll be giving homeowners the confidence that they&#8217;re hiring a competent installer.
