What is the TrustMark Quality Scheme?

Trustmark

TrustMark is the only Government Endorsed Quality Scheme for tradespeople completing work in people’s homes. As a TrustMark Registered Business, you’ll be able to display to customers that you carry out work to the highest standards.

What is the TrustMark Quality Scheme?

TrustMark was established in 2005 as the government, industry bodies and consumer protection groups all came together to protect customers and increase industry standards. The ambition of TrustMark is to give homeowners the confidence that when they hire a tradesperson, the work will be completed to the highest possible standard.

A TrustMark Registered Business has been thoroughly checked to ensure that they meet and maintain necessary working standards. To earn TrustMark registration, your business must be able to display commitment in 3 key areas:

  • Technical competence
  • Customer service
  • Trading practices

To ensure standards are being met and maintained in these 3 areas, a network of Scheme Providers monitor the businesses in their respective sectors.

Which trades are covered by TrustMark?

TrustMark registration is available for a number of different trades, including those who install:

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Biomass boilers
  • Central heating
  • Gas boilers
  • Ground source heat pumps
  • Electric heating systems
  • Insulation
  • Oil boilers
  • Solar thermal panels

This is only a selection of the trades which are covered by TrustMark.

How to become a TrustMark tradesperson

Becoming a TrustMark Registered Business isn’t a case of simply applying through Trustmark. Instead you must be inspected then approved by one of their scheme providers. Some TrustMark scheme providers include:

  • Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA)
  • NICEIC
  • Oil Firing Technician Agency (OFTEC)
  • Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC)
  • RetrofitWorks

Note that the trades offered by scheme providers will differ, this means that you may need to join multiple schemes.

When signing up you’ll need some important company information, including:

  • Registered company name
  • Company address
  • Telephone number

Benefits of TrustMark

As a TrustMark Registered Business, existing and potential customers will have the confidence that you’ll be able to carry out work to the highest standard. Some of the benefits of becoming TrustMark registered include:

  • Offer 0% finance payment options to your customers
  • Provide your customers with branded documentation such as quotes and invoices
  • Your business will earn a listing on the TrustMark website
  • The opportunity to become ‘Trading Standards Approved’ to further increase customer confidence in your business

You will also be able to carry out work through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and Green Homes Grant voucher scheme.

ECO

The Energy Company Obligation is a government initiative designed to increase efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and help those living in fuel poverty. Rather than help being in the form of a government grant, the support comes from the UK’s largest energy suppliers.

The scheme was launched in 2013 and in January 2020 it became essential for all tradespeople carrying out ECO work to be TrustMark registered.

Green Homes Grant

TrustMark registration is essential if you plan to carry out work through the government’s Green Homes Grant scheme. Eligible homeowners will receive a grant of up to £5,000 to cover as much as two-thirds of the cost of having either a low carbon heating system or insulation installed.

In addition to being TrustMark registered, you’ll also need to be MCS certified and registered with the Green Homes Grant scheme.
