Boiler Prices

We've compared the UK's best selling boilers by price so you can work out which brand is likely to give you the best value for money. Once you've found the right boiler at the right price, we can also help you to get the best installation quotes from Gas Safe qualified engineers in your area.

The boiler prices here are typical of the industry at the moment (i.e. not to be taken as quotes) and exclude the cost of having it installed by a professional engineer. By law, a gas boiler must be fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer (an oil boiler should be installed by an OFTEC registered engineer). On average, the installation costs can add between £600 but installing it in a different location may be between £1,500, depending on how complex the installation is. Comparing quotes from several engineers is the best way to keep costs down.

Note: This comparison features gas boilers from each manufacturer. If you have an oil boiler, you may want to visit our article on the best oil boilers for home heating.

Find a qualified installer

Working with any central heating system is a complicated job that requires experience and expertise; we recommend that you meet with at least 2 or 3 different engineers so you can compare prices as well as their level of experience and customer reviews. Some boiler installers are accredited by a manufacturer which means they have been specially trained to install certain boilers and often this means you receive an extended warranty.

Get the right boiler

Do you want to keep the same type and brand of boiler or are you interested in making a change? Most boiler replacements are combi boilers; these compact boilers deliver hot water for both your heating and taps on demand which is often more energy efficient than systems which require a hot water cylinder and electric immersion heater to store hot water. Combi boilers get their water supply directly from the mains and so don't need a separate water tank in the attic or a hot water cylinder. However, larger homes with 2 or more bathrooms will have a higher demand for hot water that is better served by a system or regular boiler.

Boiler prices also increase with the output size, i.e. how powerful the boiler is. Your boiler should suit the size of your home, number of bathrooms and number of radiators. This is something that installers will be able to advise you on but you can find out more in What Size Boiler Do I Need?

Avoid cheap boilers

It can be tempting to look for the cheapest boiler on the market, especially if the boiler has broken down out of the blue. However, a cheaper boiler may not be as efficient which will end up costing you more in heating bills and may be of a poorer quality leading to ongoing repair costs. If you can take the time to shop around, get advice from multiple engineers, family, friends and other consumers, it really will pay off in the long run.

Some heating companies are able to offer a boiler finance arrangement so the total price of the boiler and installation cost is broken into manageable payments over longer period.

Will a new boiler save you money?

A new boiler can save you money if it is more energy efficient than your old one. This could be up to £840* on your annual heating bill when switching a G-rated model for A-rated. The table below estimates how much you could be saving in reduced energy bills each year, depending on your property size and current boiler rating.

House Type G (<70%) F (70-74%) E (74-78%) D (78-82%)
Semi-Detached £540 £380 £335 £305
Detached £840 £590 £460 £375
Detached Bungalow £445 £310 £275 £250
Mid terrace house £235 £260 £290 £420
Mid floor Flat £230 £160 £140 £125
