Finding a CORGI Registered Boiler Engineer

CORGI stands for the Council Of Registered Gas Installers and is the official watchdog for gas safety in the UK. At present over 55,000 businesses are registered with CORGI and as such these businesses are safe to use for your gas work needs. Being the official watchdog for gas safety means that CORGI are very strict with regards to who can register and who can’t and anyone wishing to become a CORGI registered boiler installer has to show their certification and proof that they have adequate experience in the field.

Choosing the Right CORGI Engineer

It is important to remember that the gas industry has many separate fields and that not every CORGI registered engineer will know about all of the disciplines. For example, some installers will specialise in commercial boilers or swimming pool heating systems and this means that they may not have the experience of domestic boiler installation that you’re looking for.

You need to look for a CORGI registered boiler engineers that can show you certification that is relevant to the work you want done. If they can’t or they can only show you certificates for commercial boiler installation for example, then you should look elsewhere. It will be much safer for you and your home if you find a CORGI registered engineer with the relevant experience and qualifications.

Checking the Engineer is CORGI Registered

All current CORGI registered engineers will carry an official ID card that acts as a guarantee of their up-to-date knowledge and qualifications. It is important to check that the card is still in date though as they are renewed through the company every 12 months. Each card will have an expiration date printed on the front and if it is not valid then you shouldn’t allow the installer to do any work.

All CORGI registered boiler engineers have to re-sit their exams every five years to remain registered and if for some reason they fail to do this then their card becomes invalid. If you have any doubts at all then you can phone CORGI directly or simply find another installer to do the work.

Where to Find CORGI Registered Engineers

The official CORGI website lists all of the registered engineers by geographical area. The list also covers what fields each company or individual is qualified to work on e.g. domestic, commercial, leisure etc. so you can see who is safe to do the work and who isn’t. Alternatively, you can use any of the local phone books and, in some areas, local newspapers. If you are going to look for a boiler installer this way then it is even more important that you check their credentials before letting them start work.

Finding an Engineer

Gas boilers can be a dangerous commodity if fitted incorrectly so it’s vital that a little time is spent finding boiler installers that have the most up-to-date and highest-quality qualifications. The standard certification in the industry is now the Gas Safe Registry (replaced CORGI).

Through Boiler Guide’s quote service, you can not be quickly connected with up to 3 different local installers, but you can also secure the best deal for installing a gas boiler.

You simply need to fill in a 1-minute form and you’ll soon be connected with up to 3 installers who will offer you their most competitive quotes. Once you’ve compared them and chosen the deal, you can be on your way to installing a brand new boiler.
